Sarah was born in England in 1893 and came from a small Hampshire village called, Shere. She has three sisters and four brothers. Her parents were farmers and they were called Jane Feltham and Bryan Curnow. Bryan was a hard working farmer and raised a number of animals for the family to eat and onsell. He was a member of the local parish and assisted in the pastoral upkeep.
Betty was born in Scotland in 1875 and was one of 8 children. She was the oldest of her siblings and not only had to start work at the age of 12 but also had to help her parents with raising the children. Her father dies when she was 9 so she had to help with regular chires but also with bringing money into the family home. At the age of 18 she left Scotland for Suffolk, England and three years later got married in Norwich. She had three of her own children. They emigrated to NZ and Australia
