Angela and Ryan Curnow

Angela and Ryan can be seen walking along the streets of Wellington - circa 1949. Angela and Ryan had five children, two boys and three girls. They all grew up in NZ and have since had their own families. Angela is the oldest and has 15 grandchildren. She was married to a wharfie who died on the job. She did not re-marry as she was a devout catholic and decided to use her time to support other widows who were in great need.

Ryan Curnow

Ryan ran for Wanganui City Council in 1964. He was committed to serving his community and had a real passion for education and public parks. He was instrumental in setting up a number of parks in the greater Wanganui electorate. Many of the original parks were a bare patch of grass. Ryan, with the help of local businesses used much of the timber in the region to add play areas and additional features. He had a number of children and saw them as being at their most youthful, playing in parks with local children.
