Look out for events at Wairarapa's vineyards. The Wairarapa Wines Harvest Festival showcases premium local wines, food, music and art - first weekend in March.
Toast Martinborough Wine, Food and Music Festival, held on the third Sunday in November, wine and food lovers celebrate the new releases. Check at the i-SITE for many other events, year-round.
Activities in the Wairarapa
- The Masterton half-marathon and full marathon held in October.
- Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre, a 20-minute drive north of Masterton. There are wonderful walks through the native forest and check out feeding times for the eels and the kaka.
- Keep driving north to Mangatainoka Tui Brewery - you can book a tour, or drop into the bar and souvenir shop while enjoying a bite to eat at the new Tui HQ cafe.
- Aratoi, Wairarapa Museum of Art and History, hosts a variety of local and national exhibitions in a sophisticated viewing space.
